I started in digital marketing in 2004 and have never left the tools. That matters, because the industry is full of strategists who stopped implementing years ago — and implementation is where the truth is.

Career

• Independent Digital Marketing Consultant — ADAMAS Agency (2012–present). Hands-on SEO, PPC, display, social and web development for SMEs across travel, finance, education, engineering, ecommerce and professional services. Google Ads certified.
• Founder/Director — Travel Magical / Philosophia Ltd (2009–2017 — built, ran and sold). Travel proposition built in partnership with travel agents: ~£2.5M average annual revenue on ~£200k/year marketing spend, FCA-regulated. Sold in 2017. The full story.
• Founder — Skär Organics (with my wife Chloë). The UK's first certified organic candles, Soil Association certified, handmade in Yorkshire. I do the brand's photography, videography and systems. The Skär story.
• Website Manager — Engage Mutual / OneFamily (2014–2015). Agile Product Owner in regulated financial services; led a team of five through a full merger rebrand covering website strategy, UX, CRO and analytics.
• SEO Consultant — MediaVest / Carat, Leeds (2011–2012). Built the office's SEO proposition; clients included La Redoute, Daisy Telecom, Safestyle UK and Leeds Trinity University.
• Senior Account Executive — The Small Agency (2010–2011). Clients included Pyrex, Bathrooms4all and Safestyle UK.
• Online Performance Consultant — Online Travel Group (2004–2009). Managed PPC to ~£100k/month spend; analytics, A/B testing and user-journey optimisation.

Education

• University of Leeds — BA (International) Philosophy, First-Class Honours, ranked top of my year group in a department then ranked top-10 in the world. Awarded a scholarship for the Philosophy MA.
• McGill University, Montreal — exchange year as part of the International BA.

Philosophy turns out to be excellent training for marketing: both are about arguments, evidence, and noticing when a confident claim has nothing underneath it. That instinct is why this site's content methodology exists.

Now: AI-enabled consultancy

Since 2025 I've been building AI systems into the practice — a multi-model decision panel, an audited content pipeline, automated market intelligence. Not because AI is fashionable, but because used carefully it removes the drudgery from marketing work — and used carelessly it destroys rankings — a pattern I've watched up close and written the recovery playbook for. Both halves of that understanding are the flagship service.

For the organic and artisan sector specifically, I run Organic Guardians — consultancy from someone who is also a certified organic producer.

Off the clock

Family man — Chloë and two young children — occasional golfer, and a reader of things that stretch.
